Ogun to partner investors on transport system development

The Ogun State government has expressed its readiness to synergize with interested upright investors with sound corporate credentials through Public Private Partnership (PPP) in its determination at developing and repositioning transport system in the State.

Making this known in Abeokuta at separate meetings with representatives of companies who are on contractual arrangements with the State on transport services - Labour City Transport and Prizeberg Limited, Commissioner for Transportation, Engineer Gbenga Dairo said government is enthused at revamping and repositioning its transport system for better services to its citizens.

Engineer Dairo said the considered measure becomes sacrosanct as a result of infrastructural and procedural decadence in the sector, calling on private investors to collaborate with government in addressing the menace to make life more abundant for the common man.

He decried the arbitrary transport fare  passengers, especially low income earners and small medium entrepreneurs are subjected to in moving themselves and goods from one destination to another.

The Commissioner stated that government would leave no stone unturned in reaching out to known investors while interested ones with capacity to collaborate with government on service provision and infrastructural facilities development that would further help develop transportation system in the State would be embraced and encouraged, calling on all existing transport service providers with contractual arrangement with government to adhere strictly to terms of engagement as partners in creating conducive atmosphere that  eases the means of doing business in the State. 

In his remark, Chief Financial Officer of Labour City Transport, Mr Paul Malik expressed satisfaction with the renewed commitment of the State government to collaborate with investors, stressing that such leap would enhance infrastructural development that have been hindering the expansion of business in the past, assuring that engagement of investors with track records and required capacity would enhance infrastructure and enabling environment that makes transportation easy, available and affordable. 

He commended the present administration of Governor (Prince) Dapo Abiodun for its rare commitment to general overhauling of the State transport system with the creation of Ministry of Transportation and the appointment of a man with vast experience in the sector as Commissioner, promising that stakeholders in the sector shall support government in taking the sector to the desired height.
