Create Ministry of Survey, NIS tells Gov. Abiodun

The Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surveyor Adebowale Ademola has appealed to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to elevate the Office of the Surveyor-General to an extra-Ministerial  department.

Surveyor Adebowale, who made the appeal in his inaugural address as the new Chairman of NIS in Ogun State, said, this would enable the state to meet up with the global practice and sustainable development.

The body also swore in new executives for the Association of Private Practicing Surveyors of Nigeria and the Young Surveyors Network.

He said, "surveying is the bedrock for every meaningful and sustainable development in any state or nation

The chairman also lauded the holistic approach used by
Governor Dapo Abiodun in running the affairs of the state.

Surv. Adedamola assured that he will vigorously pursue the work plan from manual to digital transformation of surveying practice and the implementation of continuous reference station as primary reference station for their practice in the state to meet up with global practice.

He added that, he will provide total solution to overlapping survey jobs, correct existing second order controls in different series, create job opportunities and reduce quackery and unethical practice in the profession.

The chairman therefore sought for the support of his colleagues in fast tracking all their strategic proposals with government.

”To all our supportive groups, Association of Private Practicing Surveyors, women in surveying, young Surveyor network and hydro pro, we need your contributions, co- operations, collaborations and unity to be able to make meaningful progress. We desire a cordial relationship, peaceful atmosphere and mutual respect for us to get to our Canaan land".

The outgone Chairman, Surv. Babatunde Nureni Ashaye in his address advised new executive members to ensure full digitalization of survey work in the state.

He said, ”My candid advice to the new executives is that they really need to work on total digitalization of survey practice".

”We really need to work on this and move fast before that progression over run us. It is indeed a very serious task which I believe and I have the confidence that incoming administration will ensure the implementation”.

In his goodwill message, Surveyor Bode Adeaga, urged NIS new administration to uplift the institution to a higher level.

He charged the entire surveyors in the state to make credibility and integrity as their watch words.
