Jubilation as Abiodun nominates ex-NUJ President, Odusile as Information Commissioner

There was jubilation among journalists in Ogun State following the nomination of the  former President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Waheed Odusile as Commissioner for Information by  Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

Odusile, former NUJ President and Managing Editor of The Nation Newspaper was described as a round peg in a round hole.

He was described as a thorough bred professional who will put his years of unblemished professional acumen into bear in projecting the image of the State.

Also submitted as a Commissioner nominee on Wednesday , September 30, 2020 is Professor Arigbabu Abayomi, Vice Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State.

Prof. Arigbabu, who is a Professor of Mathematics Education, was until his appointment, the  Vice Chancellor of the University.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Education) Degree in Mathematics (Second Class Upper) from the University of Lagos and Master of Science in Mathematics from the same University.

Prof. Arigbabu later proceeded to the prestigious University of South Africa, Pretoria for his Ph.D in Mathematics, Science and Technology with specialisation in Mathematics Education.

As a Mathematician and Mathematics Educator, Prof. Arigbabu has been involved in Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) Education and preparation programmes in Nigeria in the last two and a half decades.

In addition to this, he was a visiting Professor in the Department of Science and Technology Education, University of Lagos between January 2014 and January 2015.

As an erudite scholar and educationist par excellence, the new Acting Vice Chancellor has been a co-promoter/co-supervisor of Doctoral theses of the University of South Africa (UNISA) since 2006 , while he was also an External Examiner (of Doctoral theses) to Rhodes University, Grahamstown and Tshwane University of Technology in South Africa and the University of Ibadan.

Prof. Arigbabu belongs to numerous academic and professional associations, these include Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (STAN), Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS), Southern African Association for Researchers in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE) and the Science Association of Nigeria (SAN) among others.

Also, Prof. Arigbabu, a Consultant to international journals as well as local and international organisations, is a Master Trainer on the United Nations Population FUND (UNFPA) and Family Life Education programme. His consultancy involvement includes Longman Plc, Learn Africa Plc, Pearson Educational Services, UK.
