Kidnappers release video of travellers abducted in Niger

By Our Correspondent

A video of some travellers abducted on Sunday in Niger state has been released by the suspected kidnappers.

The gunmen had ambushed the commuters on a Niger State Transport Authority (NSTA) bus who were said to be returning from a wedding in Rijau local government area of the state.

The kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of N500 million before the victims are released.

In a video which surfaced on Wednesday, some of the abducted travellers, including women and children, were pleading with the government to facilitate their release.

The kidnappers, armed, were speaking Hausa. They threatened to kill the hostages should the government fail to meet their demands.

The Niger state government on Tuesday said 10 of the victims have been released.

In another development, a yet-to-be-known number of students of Government Science College (GSC), Kagara, were abducted in the early hours of Wednesday.
