Ahead of the forthcoming 2021 Local Government (LG) elections in the State, the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), in collaboration with the State Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has organised a two-day training on functional security for its management and entire staff.

Declaring the training open at the Commission's headquarters in Abeokuta, OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, disclosed that the session was essential, giving the importance of the upcoming LG election, where members of the Commission would be engaged in various functions.

Osibodu revealed that, though the Commission was making necessary arrangements to ensure free, fair and credible election, it was also mindful of the need to ensure the safety of lives of its personnel, as well as the electorate.

"Our synergy with the NSCDC, Ogun State Command has been very helpful, I sincerely hope this will not just outline the election but also culminate into building security consciousness in the people", Osibodu added.

Leading other resource persons from the NSCDC, the Corp Commandant, Hammed Abodunrin, who spoke on Threat Analysis noted that the Command was poised at ensuring adequate security before, during and after the election, hence, the need to train OGSIEC staffers.

We maintained that the leadership of OGSIEC has demonstrated high interest in the security of its personnel and the general conduct of the election, advising the trainees on the need to build self-confidence, security consciousness as election cannot be termed free, fair and credible if personnel and electorate were not secured.

"Security should be embraced by all, we want them to be thorough, bold and conscious of happenings around them while they do their job. I sincerely salute the management of the Commission for this feat, on our part, we will ensure that, apart from the training, adequate personnel are deployed to ensure violence-free election’’, he said.
