Ogun workers are vital instrument for government's policies- Gov Abiodun

The Ogun State public servants have been described as a vital instrument for the formulation and implementation of policies and  programmes of government, for socio-economic development of any nation.

The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who stated this at the grand finale of the year 2021 Public Service Day celebration at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said workers were repository of knowledge on government’s decisions.

Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele assured workers that his administration would continue to fulfil the promises and agreement made at the inception of the present government, urging the public servants to be more committed and dedicated to the development of the State.

"On the inauguration of our administration on May 29, 2019, I stated that within the limit of available resources, we shall endeavour to be fair, open, just and equitable to all our workers, particularly, in the areas of massive re-training and relevant skill acquisition in ICT, welfare, provision of a conducive environment to enhance productivity, regular payment of salaries and other emoluments.

Today, I am happy to tell you that we have continued to fulfil these promises in practical terms", he said.

In her goodwill message, the Wife of the Governor,  Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, expressed delight on the contributions of both serving and retired civil servants in the State, encouraging them not to relent in  the discharge of their duties.

In her remarks, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, represented by Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje said the day was set aside  by the United Nations to reward the work of public service institutions world wide, pointing out that it would positively affect the development process of any society.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, appreciated Governor Abiodun for his continuous commitment towards ensuring that the State Public Service was placed at a vantage position for more effective and efficient service delivery.

 Ottun noted that the event would avail workers the opportunities to celebrate themselves by appraising their contributions, evaluating the past efforts and harmonising their collective aspiration for the development of the State, advising them to channel their efforts at reforming the public service in accordance with the world's best practices.

Delivering a lecture titled: " Rejuvenating the Public Service for Efficiency and Effectiveness in the Post COVID-19 Era", the guest speaker, who is a former Head of Service and Secretary to the State Government, Otunba Babatunde Osokoya, said public servants are the engine room and stabiliser of government, stating that workers must be optimally utilised and empowered to give out the best of their abilities and competencies.
