We’ll no longer condone ridiculing of our members with marital issues - AGN

By Our Correspondent

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) says it would no longer condone public ridiculing of its members experiencing marital issues.

In the past few days, top figures in the entertainment industry such as Annie Idibia, Tonto Dikeh, and Nedu Wazobia have been in the news over the heated crises in their marriages.

The incidents have also witnessed several leaked audio conversations of the affected movie stars on social media.

Reacting via an Instagram post on Friday, Emeka Rollas, AGN’s president, slammed those behind the release of the leaked audios without the consent of the parties affected.

The AGN president also said recent happenings have shown “that actresses are now marked for blackmail” on the ground of their marital struggles.

“Events of the last few days have shown that actresses are now marked for blackmail especially hinging it on the basis of a relationship gone awry,” he said.

“But should it be a reason for publishing private conversations without consent of the other party?

“We shall use this one to set an example to serve as a deterrent to all other persons including bloggers presently profiling actresses for blackmail to have a rethink.

“We will no longer fold our hands and watch our members taken to public ridicule via invasion of privacy.”

Rollas added that the AGN is also weighing sanctions against its members that take to social media to drag their colleagues, thereby causing disunity in the body.

“We are also looking into cases where our certified members have taken to social media to call fellow members out or make statements that can bring disrepute to our Guild or cause disharmony among members,” he added.
